Vidyaloka College in Galle has been temporarily closed after the newly appointed principal was injured and hospitalised following a tense situation this morning, police said.
The transfer of the former principal had been put off for three months because of the protests by parents. He assumed office today. However a large crowd including UPFA Provincial Councillor Ven. Baddegama Samitha Thera had gathered at the main gate of the school and prevented him from entering the school.
The police intervened and escorted him in but as he entered the school premises a group of students pelted stones at. The principal entered his office and assumed duties amid the obstructions by slogan-shouting students. Meanwhile the unruly crowd caused extensive damage to the new principal’s car and the school buildings. This compelled the principal to leave under police protection. Galle SSP Vaas Gunawardene and several police officers also received minor injuries in the incident. (D.G. Sugathapala and Sajeewa Wijeweera)
Indeed sad to see dirty politics have crept into the minds of students too....is this the future of SL ???......thuggery

Children have all the rights to protest provided the new principal has a bad track record in previous schools. If it is not so the education department has all the rights to replace any principal. In such a circumstance the children should be punished otherwise no one will be able to discipline them in the future

Today is world’s children day. As Sri Lankan we should now announce another day for child abuse by politician in Sri Lanka.

Unuversity teachers did not behave like this you idiot, think beofre you say something, first remmove your painted galss and then look at the situation, Whatever the reason, this kind of behavious cannot be accpeted, speciall y a monk a politician being in the scene is un acceptable. They should set example for the younger generation. But wht this diots do. I dear to call him and idiot, if there is an issue they could resolve that by discussion. not this way. afterall he is a principle a teacher and this is gentlement we are talking about a school. Do not give them another principle untill all these bastards plead public pardon from the principle.

It's an absolute disgrace at the values what parents are teaching their children. If we ever protested against a teacher or a principal our parents would have hammered the life out of us. We were taught to respect our teachers. The parents of these children should be ALL put behind bars for few weeks.

This is indiscipline that prevails among the children born after 1983 when law and order was individualized to unacceptable level. Some people think that their favorite things must take place and not otherwise.

maxa.. thuggery has come down to school level as well.. no respect atleast for a principal (though he is right or wrong it is upto the school authorities and OBU to decide, not the students to pelt stones)
