Audio:SF alleges state patronage

Expressing his views regarding the assault on Judicial Services Commission Secretary Manjula Tillekaratne, former Army commander Sarath Fonseka yesterday charged that a gang operated with state patronage might have been behind it.

Speaking to the media at the Supreme Court complex yesterday morning he said a situation had arisen today where the judiciary is seeking justice.

“As politicians we would like to support the Judiciary in securing and ensuring justice.  We believe that government patronage has been received to carry out this attack. According to information we received, government politicians and their henchmen known for criminal activities have been involved in this attack,” the former army commander alleged.

He also criticized media statements made by some politicians over police investigations into the matter.

“Some politicians have told the media that the police were ordered to carry out investigations and arrest the persons involved. But I have my doubts. Such an attack in a high security zone cannot be carried out without state patronage. We believe that the judiciary will be brave enough to face these challenges,” he said.
