Shahabdeen submitted that they had taken into custody seven suspects including DIG Vaas Gunawardena in connection with the killing of millionaire businessman Mohamed Shyam and they were conducting further investigations on the seven suspects who are being held in detention.
He said the CID had sent the productions recovered during the investigation to the Government Analyst for examination and a report.
ASP Abeysekera said that DIG Gunawardena who fell ill was admitted to ward number 42 of the National Hospital. He also said the 90-hour detention order obtained against the suspect was over.
Counsel Ajith Pathirana appearing with Hasitha Perera, Madura Welgama, Rasika Samarawickrama and Thusitha Gunasena for DIG Gunawardena submitted that his client was experiencing an uncontrollable diabetic condition together with hypertension and heart attacks.
He emphasized that the suspect was a person who had conducted many raids and investigated many serious crimes that were committed in the past. Some of those suspects who are still in remand might harm the DIG and his life and limbs were anger. Therefore they requested to keep the DIG in Prison Hospital. (T. Farook Thajudeen)

Actually Sri Lanka is a paradise for people whom are well connected with the top, even after committing a crime they do not need to stay in remand prison, they get some short of ill and get eligible to stay in the hospitals.
