Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Hugo Swire said that Britain looked forward to build strong relations with the new Sri Lankan government.

“…Just congratulated Ranil Wickremesinghe, #SriLanka’s new PM. Look forward to building stronger relations with new Sri Lankan government,” Swire tweeted after congratulating Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today.

Remember, England made Ceylon a "Crown Colony" This avoided Sri Lanka being a part of India. They handed over the country to people of Sri Lanka intact, without dividing.

The UK must first and foremost recommence the issue of UK visas in our own country. Why should our visa applications be processed in Chennai? We are given stepmotherly treatment despite paying non refundable visa fees. And if rejected mind you it takes 28 working days to query. No personal communication but written complaints and appeals. Dosent the UK embassy occupy a prime spot of land in colombo?
