They were not re-elected



Several United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) heavy weights, including former ministers S.B. Dissanayake, Lakshman Seneviratne, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardane and Mahinda Samarasinghe were not re-elected according to the results announced today.

Mr. Dissanayake who contested from Kandy, Mr. Seneviratne from Badulla, Mr. Abeywardane from Matara and Mr. Samarasinghe from Kalutara were among those who failed at the election.

Former ministers Gamini Wijith Wijeyamuni Zoysa and Jagath Pushpakumara who contested from the Hambantota district and UPFA candidates Nandimithra Ekanayake and Rohana Kumara Dissanayake, who contested from the Matale district also failed in their bid to be re-elected to parliament.

Among the others who failed in their bid for re-election were former deputy minister of Water Supply and Drainage, Nirupama Rajapaksa who contested from the Hambantota district, former minister Piyasena Gamage who contested from the Galle and former MPs Chamika Buddhadasa, Udith Lokubandara and Dr. Rohana Pushpakumara.

Former ministers W.B. Ekanayake and Tissa Karalliyadda who contested from the Anuradhapura district and former MP C.A. Sooriyarachchi who contested from the Polonnaruwa district were not re-elected either.

Upeksha Swarnamali who contested for the General Elections from the UPFA in Gampaha district, former Deputy Minister of Skills Development and Vocational Training Thilanga Sumathipala contested from the UPFA in Colombo district and former State Minister of Children’s Affairs Rosy Senanayake contested from the UNP in Colombo district were among those who were not re-elected at the election.
