Some 18 sluice gates of the Puttlam Thabbowa Tank have been opened with immediate effect today morning, Puttlam Irrigation Department announced.

Puttlam Irrigation Department Engineer R.C. Jayasinghe said the sluice gates were because the tank was not able to hold the water accumulated through recent heavy rains, as the restoration operations of the tank are still not complete. (Hiran Priyankara Jayasinghe, and Jayarathna Wickrama Arachchi)

According to the way in which the water and irrigation management activities are conducted by the relevant authorities in this BANANA island it does not make much difference whether the sluice gates are kept opened or closed throughout the year!!

too bad the water is going wasted..! they should predict the weather and should have completed any works before the rain starts like how our ancestors did..! remember, we they were the best irrigators of south Asia.
