Strike at BIA

Several cleaning employees at the Bandaranaike International Airport launched a strike this morning demanding the management increase their pay.

Airport officials said the employees who were from a private company to which the services were outsourced had not reported for work today.

Temporary workers have been employed to ensure services run smoothly at the airport, officials said.

At least 90 workers engaged in cleaning services and those who help passengers with the trolleys are taking part in the strike. (T.K.G. Kapila)

Yes we need better cleaning staff now.Because existing cleaning the airport was not very cleaned.

The BIA does stink anyway. Either the contract to be terminated or the striking personnel to be fired. May be both.

The airport janitorial service is to be desired. Time they brought in new brooms. Looks like the old ones are not efficient any more. Nobody is indispensable. Time they discarded the old ones.

You can even ask those who are wasting time in the waiting lounge to do some extra work and earn something extra for pocket money to be spent overseas!

Clean up airport with from Porters, cleaners, errant taxi drivers and introduce people friendly personnel while looking after the beautiful Airport
