Video: SriLankan flight diverted to Mattala

A SriLankan flight was diverted to the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) today due to inclement weather in Colombo, Spokesman for the SriLankan Airlines said.

“The SriLankan Airline flight UL 504 from London to Colombo with 244 passengers onboard was diverted to MRIA and landed safely at 13.54,”he said.

The passengers had been served refreshments and the flight took off from MRIA at 16.30 hrs heading Bandaranaike International Airport.

Paddy storing is OK. Why no? For the few flight movements Mattala can still function as airport also.

It seems that more and more such incidents are happening to Sri Lankan airlines within a short spate of time. There is a difference in the planes. When I first traveled Air Lanka more than 25 years ago, the planes were in good condition and able to handle different weather conditions. Now the planes shake and shudder at the slightest weather change. I think it is time to repair our fleet or retire them. We have the best service and pilots. It is their skill that saves these moments.

ara - $ 200 Million is SL Tax Payers money ! How can you justify spending $ 200 Million to land a couple of airlines every year ? The maximum cost of using and Indian airport for such an emergency will be few thousand dollars ! So you justify spending $ 200 Millions for something which can be done for a few thousand dollars ? ALL SL people pay taxes for these short sighted propanda expenses !!!
