Counsel Hemantha Warnakulasuriya appearing for MP Duminda Silva said yesterday that medical specialists treating Mr. Silva are in a predicament how his client is surviving with his head injury.

The counsel producing a plastic skull in Colombo Magistrate court said that some parts of his client’s skull had been badly damaged due to gun shots. “Some of bullets embedded in the skull cannot be removed by surgery. However even the specialists are in a predicament how his client is surviving with the injury,” he said.

I think we should highly commend the SL medical experts who took care of Duminda before he was flown in to Singapore. If my memory serves me right, he was in SL around a week. If the damage was so bad, he survives because of medical experts and facilities we have in Sri Jayawardanepura hospital.

If Dumida Silva has been hit so severely, how is it that he appears to be so fine and fit in a gymnasium in a photograph taken recently? How is it that he had walked to the Prime Minister's bed to great him when he was warded in the same hospital some months ago? The government says, he has no memory. How then did Duminda know and recognise the PM? Very fishy.

Of course, we are also baffled beyond belief as to how a murder suspect was whisked away from the country to spend time in a luxurious hospital in Singapore with neither Police, CID nor the Courts wanting to touch him, and on top of it enjoying paid leave from the Parliament for indefinite periods. This truly must be the Miracle of Asia where only the brainless can survive.
