Shangri-La Hambantota construction kicks off

Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts had its ground breaking ceremony on Saturday (25) for a resort on 145 acres on the Southern Coast of Hambantota.

The resort is due to open in 2014 and will complement Shangri-La’s Colombo resort which broke ground on Friday (24).

Shangri-La’s Hambantota Resort and Spa will be surrounded by an 18-hole golf course, coconut plantations and sand dunes to the south. Built along the shoreline, the resort will offer 315 rooms including 24 suites ranging in size from 538 square feet to 2,691 square feet. (Keishara Perera)
