Sri Lanka would have been better placed at the UNHRC sessions in Geneva if the government had allowed former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka to defend the country, the United National Party (UNP) said yesterday.

UNP parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella said the government should have listened to his plea to allow Mr. Fonseka to meet members of the experts’ panel appointed by the United Nations to inquire into the human rights violations and accountability issues during the final stages of the war. If that was so he would have sold the country wholesale. The UNP by making various unfounded allegations all the time as desred by wstern powers are responsible for this fiassco. Sarath Fonseka is the madman who destroyed our victory single handedly. UNP and JVP has done the rest. On one hand they go around the world asking to stop assistance to Sri Lanka and then go around the country and aggitate about the high cost of living.

Although inexperienced in politics, even SF would have handled this matter far better. I personally don't care for the man but what is being done to him is absolutely wrong. Sri Lankans must realize what Human Rights mean to the people of the country. Not just to blindly follow deceitful politicians who seek refuge in "patriotism".
