South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 153 runs on the fifth and final day of the first test played in Galle to take a one-nil lead in the two-match series.

South Africa 455 for 9 decl. (Dean Elgar 103, Faf du Plessis 80, JP Duminy 100*; Dilruwan Perera 4 for 162, Suranga Lakmal 3 for 75) & 206 for 6 decl. (AB de Villiers 51; Dilruwan Perera 4 for 79, Rangana Herath 2 for 84).

The wicket at Galle is not suitable for test cricket. The side who wins the toss and elects to bat first will go on to win the match, unless their opponents are very very strong in all departments.

What a disgraceful performance by the Sri Lankan Cricketers.
Shows that we are loosing steam on the longer format of the game. I thought we should have had the guts to at least draw the match................

SL needs to change its line up, Drop Thirimana, Mahela I think you need to step down before they drop you, Chandimal needs to get himself some batting technical correction done. All these r essential.

Well played SA, most of the SL Batsmen got out playing One Day or 20-20 Shots, thus, cant ask for better result than this.
Hope SL lions bounce back and level series, Good luck for second one. Mahela announcing retirement is like shooting his own foot, now his test average lowered to below 50, , so sad as he pressed himself by announcing retirement from test format..
