Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman Rumy Marzook charged that no permission or approval had been granted yet to wheat flour production companies to raise prices.

“Flour production companies cannot increase flour prices as they wish. However, Prima and Serendib increased the prices of flour from last Friday after making announcements. Therefore legal action will be taken against those companies today,” he said.

He also said that the companies had not made requests to increase flour prices.

As a result of this, the price of a 450 gramme loaf of bread was increased by Rs.2 with effect from midnight yesterday. (Jayantha Samarakoon)

Did the government levy to import grain go up for these 2 parties to increase the price as the raw material cost has increased? Surely, these companies do not have a consolidated fund to meet the extra expenditure!

So far how many cases the CAA has filed in the court? how many verdict given. Whenever any price is increased such as Flour, petrol and LPG gas.

did the govt. get anyone's approval before raising the duty on flour imports, where were you then.
This is like saying only we can earn not others.

Well Mr. Marzook, someone with higher authority may have given the Go Ahead. We cannot find any loaf of bread containing 450 Grames its always not exceeding 350 grames
