Video: Police on the look for explosive expert
A suspect had been arrested with 15 Kgs of TNT explosive from Madhu in Mannar at a Police barricade, Police Spokesmen SSp Ajith Rohana said today.
Another suspect, believed to be a former explosive expert of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam had managed to flee, he said.
He said that a manhunt to arrest the LTTE explosive expert, who escaped was now being carried out.
Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the arrested suspect, a resident of Madhu, had about to 15 Kg of TNT in his possession when arrested.
The suspect has been handed over to the TID for further questioning.
SSP Rohana said the suspect who fled, Syril Nilangam Jude Anthony, an ex-LTTE cadre was also suspected to have explosives in his position and was a known specialist of explosives.
Anthony is suspected to have knowledge of land mines buried in the region, the SSP said.
SSP Rohansa said the Anthony dismantled buried land mines, collected explosives and sold them to local fishermen, SSp Rohana said citing the arrested suspect.
