Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said the investigations have revealed that the alleged defamatory call at the recent TV show telecasted over a private TV channel was made from the mobile number of MP Ranjan Ramanayake.

“The mobile number had been registered with the address of MP Ramanayake,” he said.

The police on Sunday summoned the MP and recorded a statement. SSP Rohana said they were conducting further investigations.

Mr. Ramanayake when contacted by the Daily Mirror said he was questioned for a few hours by the police. He said he was asked about Matara Sunil. He said the police have informed him that he would be questioned again if needed.

The UNP MP said he had files containing details of alleged charges against the Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage and was preparing to present everything to court in the event a case was filed.

The defamatory call was made to UPFA MP Dr. Ramesh Pathirana during the talk show when Minister Aluthgamage intervened and responded to the caller. It was during this time that the caller made some defamatory remarks to Minister Aluthgamage. (Yohan Perera and Darshana Sanjeewa)
