Notice issued on Vajira Nettikumara



The Colombo Fort Magistrate today issued notice on Vajira Janaki Nettikumara the owner of the building in which an illegal gambling centre allegedly operated at Union Place Colombo 2, to appear in Court on May 19.

The Colombo Crimes Division charged that she had permitted the place to run a gambling centre and also defaulted monthly tax payments of Rs.500,00 in 2013.

It charged that the suspect had permitted the operation of a gambling centre which was raided by the police on six occasions.

In a report filed before Magistrate Thilina Gamage, the CCD said the suspect had defaulted on the monthly payment of the betting and gaming levy of Rs.500,000 to the Inland Revenue Department in 2013.

Meanwhile, 24 suspects who pleaded guilty to the charge of gambling were each fined Rs.100. However, seven suspects arrested on charges of betting and operating a gambling centre were released on bail with two sureties of Rs.100,000.  (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
