UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya said that he would not participate in the rally to be held today at Hyde park
In a statement issued to the media the MP said that he took this decision after a great deal of thought.
“I will ultimately bow to the majority will of the party, as exercised through the UNP Working Committee. Most importantly, I cannot in good conscience take a step that will almost certainly further divide and weaken my party. Therefore after a great deal of thought I have decided not to attend the rally at Hyde park today. I hope my party will cease and desist from penalizing and exacting revenge from those members who answer the call of conscience. To do so would only serve the interests of the ruling administration that thrives on a weakened and fractured opposition” he said.
Meanwhile, UNP MP's Range Bandara, Palitha Thewarapperuma and Ashoka Abeysinghe are currently on the stage together with former Amry Commander Sarath Fonseka and a host of others.(Yohan Perera & Hafeel Farisz)

There is serious misunderstanding among the opposition parties. Everybody wanted SF to be elected as the President and then demolish it. Now everybody has forgotten the mission they were heading for. Had this been discussed and come to an agreement, this could have been the best ever protest against the government. You all messed it up.

What is the reason. Since you were elected by the people, we should know the reason you are refraining from attending the meeting at Hyde Park today. If not, we will come to several conclusions.

You were in the forefront issuing statements and canvassing the support of Mahanayake Theros and now you have somersaulted. Huge disappointment.

Courages? or Outrageous? He once stepped into the government with a lot, left them there and stepped back in and this time did the same iwth another three. What is he up to? A dangerous player to keep in the party!
