SL Navy denies attack on Indian fishermen

Sri Lanka Navy today denied any involvement in the alleged attacks, chasing and damaging 20 fishing nets of the Tamil Nadu fishermen, Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.

“We have not done anything or involve in any attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen who were fishing near Kachchathivu and other areas,” he said.

Tamil Nadu Fisheries Department officials and local fishermen’s associations today said that Sri Lanka Navy allegedly fired in the air and damaged more than 20 fishing nets to chase away Indian fishermen fishing near Kachchathivu and other areas, Indian media reported.

Reports said the fishermen could have gone beyond Kachchathivu islet and that could be the reason for the attack by the Lankan Navy. (Chatuanga Pradeep)
