Iranian Naval rating injured in Pettah

An Iranian Naval rating was injured when an individual standing by the roadside pelted stones at a few ratings that were walking near the Khan Clock Tower in Pettah yesterday, police said.

The naval rating with a minor injury to his ear lobe was admitted to a private hospital in Colombo. Police arrested the individual who pelted stones but the suspect is said to be mentally handicapped.

The naval ratings were members of two ships accompanied by a submarine belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Naval Force which arrived at the Port of Colombo on Friday on a voyage in the Indian Ocean.
