Ahead of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions, the Government and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) are slated for a race against time to woo the international community, Daily Mirror learns.
Already, the Government has sought to despatch ministerial delegations to the member states of the UNHRC.
"We have sought appointments from the respective governments to meet with our ministerial delegations. We have implemented the bulk of the recommendations by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). We need the participation of the TNA to implement some recommendations. Also by their very nature, it takes time to implement some recommendations," a government source said.
Meanwhile, the TNA said it might brief the international community ahead of the UNHRC session. Asked for a comment, TNA spokesman MP Suresh Premachandran said the government had failed to address issues concerning lands, resettlement, missing persons and de-militarisation, and the international community should be briefed on the situation.
"Already, the United States and Britain have warned of an international inquiry unless Sri Lanka's own process does not address these issues. Our view is that the government has failed in this task. We will brief the UNHRC," he said.
Asked whether they would visit some of the countries, he replied, "We will possibly visit some of the countries. Likewise, we will engage with the representatives of these countries either here or elsewhere."(Kelum Bandara)

You cannot do an international inquiry without SL consent, and these UNHRC resolutions will never lead to economic sactions or military actions. Guys get a life and dont worry about next March.

#Shan totally agree with you. UNHCR resolutions are just that. No country would enforce economic sanctions. Just last week the British PM , Cameron was licking the boots of the Chinese officials for contracts and other favors- no mention of any human rights violations. Its all Business. As long as the Diaspora funds Cameron, he is their "lap dog", he would be the ugly mouth piece for them. haranguing Sri Lanka.

Send our High Commissioner in the UK Dr. Nonis to meet with representatives of the US & UK. He is very erudite and could well explain the ground situation in Sri Lanka.

These fellows always know how to twist the truth to their advantage! Recently, one guy said Indian national anthem is sung in Bengali and not in Hindi!!!! Imagine how unscrupulous people are they?

Besides China and Russia ,those trying to blacken Sri Lanka's image, wont have much sympathy or support of couple of some Asian countries, too. They are ? your guess is good as mine. Think!

If the government is free from red blooded hands and If government hasn't done any war crime they don't need to lobby international community by cheap approaches.

It is far better for Rajapakse to setle the issues with TNA than run around the world canvassing support.
