Flights delayed by Customs officers’ strike

Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport launched a sudden strike against being subjected to strict screening by BIA security officials, especially their food and beverage.

The protesters said the screening of food by X-ray machines was a health hazard. Airport Duty Manager said five flights including those to London, Lahore, Singapore and Shanghai had been delayed because of the strike. (T.K.G.Kapila)

The radiation doses used to process food can be as high as 10,000 gray, whilst X-ray scanners operate at less than 0.5 gray. So how does it become a health hazard when they screen food and beverages. These customs officers are either illiterate or their is some ulterior motive in this "sudden strike".

Screening of food by X-ray is not a health hazard. It is only the food and packing that is exposed to the frequency waves and their will be absolutely no health risk for humans to eat thereafter, similar to heating via micro waves which is also a RF. Living beings should not get exposed directly to RF waves because it can cause living cell damage.
