Australia and Britain said Wednesday there remain important concerns about human rights and reconciliation in Sri Lanka, but also noted areas of progress and also encouraged countries to participate in the Commonwealth leaders' meeting to be held in Sri Lanka in November.

“Sri Lanka will have an opportunity to show what progress has been made in areas of humanitarian support and human rights,” foreign media reports said quoting Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop. She said more could be achieved by engaging Sri Lanka than by isolating it.

Bishop welcomed this week's provincial elections in a region that was ravaged by the war.

This is very true. If the U.K and other Western Nations engaged with Sri Lanka from the time the LTTE rebellion began with earnest in the early '80s, this matter would never have come so far. Even after the "war", the "engagement" was dictated by the diaspora, who appear to control the vote; hence the Chinese influence at present.

What has been achived by isolating Cuba since 1961??

Australia has to comment in this way, otherwise they must prepare to accept all magodies illegally entering their land claiming political Anselm , or illegal migrants.

So all Sri lankan Tamil brothers & sisters, now it's time to understand that U need to corporate and live in this country, no one else will look after U.

Agree totally with UK & Australia. The diaspora Tamils are out to destroy and defame Sri Lanka. They still contribute to some of the politicians in western countries hence this harangue against sri lanka in western countries. We should tell them to stuff it and mind their own business, we have China and Russia who do not interfere in our internal policies, If anyone is in doubt they could come visit sri lanka and see for themselves not some ethnic tamil like Pillay who is naturally biased againt sri lanka.
