The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said today an unruly mob accompanied by Deputy Minister Sanath Jayasooriya and a few other Provincial Council Ministers had forcibly entered the Ruhuna University on Monday and attacked the university students.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said about seven students were injured but were unable go to a hospital for medical treatment because they were trapped inside the university.

“The mob had surrounded the university blocking the exits. The police came in only at the last minute after most of the damage was done,” he told a news conference. (Lahiru Pothmulla and Sanath Desmond)
