Maithree's son remanded



Southern Provincial Councillor Maithree Gunaratne’s son Chamath Maithree Gunaratne, who had allegedly driven the jeep under the influence of liquor and struck a vehicle driven by another drunken driver, was ordered to be remanded until July 8 by the Colombo Traffic Court Magistrate Jeyaram Trosky this monring.
 
Four persons travelling in the jeep were injured. The magistrate visited the Colombo National Hospital and ordered the two suspects Gunaratne and A.L. Brayaon Trawls to be remanded after investigating the condition of the injured persons.
 
Police also informed the court that this accident had occurred as a result of the vehicles being driven without concern for the signals given by the night traffic police officers of the Kirulapona Police while they were checking drunk drivers.(Ileshan D. Amarasinghe)
