Colombo Uni distances itself from poll survey

The Colombo University yesterday distanced itself from the survey released by the Opposition Common candidate's office which showed 53% victory for Maithripala Sirisena.

Colombo University Registrar K.A.S.Edward in a statement said:

"In this connection, I wish to categorically state that this survey has been conducted by a certain individual without the knowledge of the University and as such the University cannot take any responsibility for the outcome of the survey. Further I am of the view that the heading of the news item tends to mislead the general public."

Quite true. Only two individuals attached to the CU were involved without the knowledge of the Registrar and they have taken samples of the "local tourists" transported by CTB buses to political rallies from other electorates. So, this is not correct. It has to be 56.2% to MS, 41.4% to MR and 2.4% to others.

Registrar is trying to hide the gaps in their university administration procedures by making such comments. If there is a proper procedure stated for making public comments, these individuals will not go beyond it. WHY NOT Registrar formulate some procedures....

The individuals conducted the survey, or the newspaper claimed that the survey was done by the University of Colombo. This was not a survey commissioned by the University of Colombo. It is the duty of the registrar to announce the truth. As a matter of fact I believe those two individuals should apologize or resign from their positions if they claimed the survey was done by the University of Colombo. Students and the citizens of the country lose their respect for teachers, who has no integrity.
