The economic and political policies adopted during the tenure of former President Chandrika Kumaratunga were the worst in the history of Sri Lanka, United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Bandula Gunawardena charged today.

He made this remark as a response to Mrs. Kumaratunga’s allegations that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had destroyed the country’s economy.

MP Gunawardena refuted all allegations and said Mr. Rajapaksa was the only President, who was able to uplift the country’s economy.

He said Mrs. Kumaratunga wanted to tarnish the image of former President Rajapaksa, because of jealousy. (Piyumi Fonseka)

Well this a statement for an economics tuition master. He also claims he is an economist. Any laymen will know the Mahinda Rajapaksa had no concrete economic plans. Just getting loans at high interest rate and building roads to nowhere, airport in wildlife sanctuaries, harbors with no ships etc. No wonder the standard of education is low in Sri Lanka.
