CEA temporarily revokes suspension on Coca-Cola’s EPL

The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) today temporarily revoked the suspension imposed on the Environmental Protection Licence (EPL) of the Coca-Cola beverage factory.

The factory’s EPL was suspended by the Authority on Tuesday after oil from the factory was leaked into the Kelani River.

CEA Chairman Prof. Lal Mervin Dharmasiri said the beverage company had taken measures to prevent further leakage and had also flushed away oil patches down the river.

“The Company said it would make sure to prevent such incidents from happening. Our officials inspected the factory, the affected area before revoking the suspension. However, the revoke is only for a short period of time and we will keep inspecting the process of the measures taken by the factory,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
