Case against UNP leadership over suspension of UNPers
Mount Lavinia District Court today issued notice of enjoining order on UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and others sequent to a case filed by several UNP parliamentarians and provincial councillors over the suspension of their party membership.UNP MPs Ashoka Abesinghe, Palitha Range Bandara and Palitha Thewarapperuma and Provincial Councillors Shrilal Lakthilake and Maithree Gunaratne filed action against the UNP leader, General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa and National Organiser Daya Gamage.
They challenged the party decision to suspend their membership because they participated at the October 18 Hyde Park rally organized by the National Bikkhu Front. Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka and other Democratic National Alliance (DNA) members also participated at this rally.
The court issued notice returnable on November 15. (Suranjith Perera)
