Sri Lankan cricketer Kaushal Lokuarachchi and New Zealnd player Lou Vincent were banned for 18 months and three years respectively from all cricketing activities by a Bangladeshi tribunal that dealt with the allegations on match fixing.

Former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful and owner of Dhaka Gladiators team Shihab Chowdhury have also been banned from all cricketing activities for eight and 10 years respectively for match-fixing during the second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The three-member tribunal pronounced the sanctions this afternoon at the tribunal building at Gulshan in Dhaka.

The convicts are entitled to appeal with the chairman of the disciplinary panel formed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said Justice Khademul Islam, Convener of the three-member tribunal.

“They can also go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, an international quasi-judicial body established to settle disputes related to sport,” he added.

On January 19, the full hearing of the tribunal began against nine accused over the allegations brought by the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).

The tribunal delivered the reason judgement on the charges on June 8.

Six of the nine charged by ACSU were acquitted while two –Mohammad Ashraful and Kaushal Lokuarachchi – confessed to their wrongdoings. (The Daily Star)
