Kiriella blames Govt. for attack on Ranil
The main opposition UNP today charged that those who attacked Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe’s convoy in Balapitiya on Tuesday evening had received government backing.“The attack was carried out by goons who were under the protection of the government. UPFA MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena is also responsible for the attack. It is a shame that the government keeps attacking and killing people while talking about ethics,” UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella told a news conference.
UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was attacked by a group of men in Balapitiya on Tuesday as they went round visiting the homes of the fishermen who were victims of the recent adverse weather conditions.
According to Mr. Kiriella, MP Gunawardena had openly said they would also chase away those who came to the funerals of fishermen. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
