External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris this morning, briefed Japan’s Special Envoy, Ambassador Yasushi Akashi in detail about the procedures set in motion by the government for implementation of the LLRC recommendations, the progress already achieved and priority objectives for the future.

He explained that the work connected with the resettlement of internally displaced persons, the re-integration of ex-combatants and de-mining operations are almost complete.

Prof. Peiris described to the visiting Special Envoy of Japan the government’s preparedness to appoint immediately the Parliamentary Select Committee, consisting of all political parties in Parliament, to address political and constitutional issues. (Dianne Silva)

Akashi is a fair minded person who is not afraid to call a spade a spade unlike most other dignitaries who are totally biased and come with pre-conceived notions. The Govt must not take him for granted.

Nodrog, True Akashi is a fair mined person, But he will never call a spade a spade. He only smiles. He always keeps smiling when the SL officials tell nice things (not the truths) about what they are doing . Honestly, I don't know why he keeps coming here.

as a country that had to re-build itself after a war Japan understands the difficulties we face. But their patience also has limits which the govt should not test or else we will lose another good friend.
