A case will be filed against Deputy Minister Dulip Wijesekara’s driver who is alleged to have violated the speed limit on the Southern Expressway, Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
According to a source, the vehicle in which the deputy minister was travelling had been speeding and the Kottawa exit point had been alerted about the traffic violation.
When police officers manning the exit point had stopped the vehicle and insisted on taking action against the driver, the Deputy Minister had allegedly thrown Rs.1,500 at the Police officers and insisted on them releasing the vehicle.
Mr. Wijesekara had told the police officers on duty that he was in a hurry to leave. The officers had however, said that the due process must be followed after which an argument had broken out between the minister and the police officers.
SSP Rohana however said there was no assault or threat during the argument, as evidenced by video footage.
“The law applies equally to everyone and therefore we will take action against the driver of the vehicle who is alleged to have broken road rules. There was an argument between the Minister who was inside the vehicle and the Police but there was no assault, threat or intimidation” he said. (by Hafeel Farisz)
