You blocked then , you build now, Namal tells Govt

Colombo, Nov. 12 (Daily Mirror) - Delivering remarks during the budget debate, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and MP Namal Rajapaksa drew attention to the stark policy contrasts between the present government and its earlier positions when in opposition.

He said that the very leaders who now promote various development projects were the same individuals who, at the time, blocked their implementation.

“If not for your objections back then, these projects would have already seen the light of day. You are now trying to develop them,” he said.

Referring to the budgetary proposal to extend the Marine Drive and link it with the Colombo Port City, Mr. Rajapaksa said the idea was first proposed by then President Mahinda Rajapaksa, but was opposed by those who are now in power.

“You claimed at the time that even the historic Sigiriya rock fortress would be destroyed to obtain granite for the construction of the Port City. What a falsehood! Sigiriya remains intact today — and the Port City stands completed,” he said.
