Those who are waiting to take over the leadership of the UNP should be prepared to work in unity, Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said today.
Mr Wickremesinghe, who met the members of the UNP affiliated United National Lawyers' Association at Sirikotha yesterday, said no one in the party should get caught in a net but should work together to put the party along the right track.
“No one in the UNP should get caught in a net but should work together in order to take the party towards success” relating a 'Jathaka Katha' where a group of birds who got trapped in a net managed to get out of it by breaking it with a collective effort.
“Some in the party seem to be getting caught to a net and such a thing should not happen” he stressed.
He said the UNP should think of re-organising itself and also should focus on safeguarding freedom brought about during the previous regime. This he said should be done through parliament.
He said re-organisation of the party would begin in January next year and would be completed by end February.
“There should be one single plan for reorganisation without any alternative, “ he said.
Also, the UNP Leader said the party should be prepared to face the general election which is likely to be held by the end of April next year. (Yohan Perera)
