An air passenger who attempted to smuggle into the country a consignment of gold jewellery weighing 587.3 gms valued at Rs.10.2 million was nabbed by the Police Anti Narcotics Bureau officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in the early hours of this morning.
The suspect is a 54 year-old woman from the Kotahena area in Colombo, who arrived from Chennai at about 3.00 am today on an Indigo Airline flight.
Police said the suspect who had been checked out was leaving the airport when she was arrested on suspicion and questioned to find the stock of contraband on her person.
She was handed over to the Customs for further action. (T.K.G. Kapila)
