The wife of Frontline Socialist Party Propaganda Secretary Duminda Nagamuwa today filed a Habeas Corpus petition in Court of Appeal seeking an interim order directing authorities to produce Duminda Nagamuwa before Court forthwith to be dealt with according to the law.
The petitioner Naidelage Dulani Priyangika, the wife of Duminda Nagamuwa filed this petition naming IGP Chandana Wickremaratne, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Thennakoon, Officer-In-Charge of Slave Island Police Station, Director General of Health Services Dr.Asela Gunawardena and several others as respondents.
Duminda Nagamuwa and seven others were arrested by the police on 7th of July when they staged a peaceful protest at the State Engineering Corporation against the interdictions of two employees on political grounds.
The petitioner said Duminda Nagamuwa and others were walking away from the court premises after being granted bail by Fort Magistrate's Court, when a group of police officers blocked their movements and informed them that they would be compulsorily referred to a quarantine centre.
The petitioner stated that no document was given or shown to the Corpus and no reasons were given for such obstruction.
The petitioner said according to the information Duminda Nagamuwa is currently detained in the Pallekele Army camp.
