Water supply may be restricted amid dry weather: NWSDB

Colombo, March 30 (Daily Mirror) - Water supply may have to be restricted for several hours a day over the next two to three weeks owing to the prevailing dry and drought conditions in the country, Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB), Chandana Bandara warned.

Adressing the media, Bandara said “We have not yet implemented water cuts; however, the prevailing weather conditions could make it difficult to maintain a continuous 24-hour water supply in the coming weeks.

Furthemore, Bandara noted that rainfall is expected in the coming days and urged the public to use the available water reserves sparingly until the situation improves.

“Although the production capacity of major water treatment plants, including the Ambatale Water Treatment Plant, has not been affected so far, water supply to high-elevation areas has already been reduced to low-pressure levels,” he added.
