Wasantha Mudalige’s detention challenged in Supreme Court

A Fundamental Rights petition has been filed on behalf of Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF) Convener Wasantha Mudalige challenging the legality of the detention order issued on him.

Attorney-at-law Manjula Balasooriya has filed this petition in Supreme Court on behalf Wasantha Mudalige and seeking a declaration that the arrest and detention of Mudalige is unlawful.

Very good. Given he is detailed under PTA and knowing how the 'one law for all' is applied through our system - is there any chance? We should apply international pressure, UN, HR Council, Embassies, Financial institutions etc to apply pressure in all human rights violations in Sri Lanka.

This guy is attending University education for more than 6 years, when a degree course is finished in 3 years. This guy should have been sacked from the University for hanging around for such a long time. Try to find out more about this IUSF leader before defending him. Please allow the POLICE and the tri forces to do their job. The POLICE is doing a wonderful job in probing and bringing to book the hooligans, be they be priests, monks, moulavi's or Iyers within the "RULE-OF-LAW and the powers vested on them. Gotabaya Rajapaksa failed to vest these powers in the POLICE and he was lenient with this "SO-CALLED" Aragalakaarayos. He paid a premium price for it as they threatened his life and he had to "FLEE" as some media and especially a digital news channel of a TV station broadcasted. If these so called police office are acting on direction of the politicians better watch out. You will never be able to travel outside Sri Lanka and if you have any children studying outside the authority (HRC)will be looking at it cancel your visa. Did carry any Gun ,bomb or did he have any hostages with him?? Can someone in Government answer this? It was all peaceful protest against a corruption.

I fully agree with Noor Nizam. This Wasantha Mudalige guy has wasted public money for over 8 years without completing his degree and denying admission to 8 eligible students over the years . A guy who has failed to change is taking a lead to change the system. Police should carryout a full investigation on this guy
