Voting has begun to appoint a Deputy Speaker for Parliament with two names have been proposed.

The opposition had nominated Rohini Kaviratne as the Deputy Speaker, as the Prime Minister advised to propose a name of a female MP for the deputy speaker's slot.

The Speaker decided to call for voting as the SLPP nominated Ajith Rajapaksa for the post.

The Prime Minister informed the Parliament Deputy Speaker should be elected unanimously without spending the day on voting.
