Parliament, March 21 (Daily Mirror)- The Viyathmaga had no connection to the economic crisis and the expulsion of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa from office, Parliamentarian Nalaka Godahewa said today.
He told Parliament that the crisis situation was a result of the banning of chemical fertilizer, shortage of gas, the power crisis and depletion of foreign reserves.
The MP said Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his book which was released recently clearly said that former Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had supported him in the implementation of the organic farming policy.
He said the Viyathmaga members who were appointed as Secretaries to the Ministries were against the decisions taken by the President and as a result, four of them were removed.
The MP said this in response to a claim made by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, who said that the Viyathmaga was behind the faulty decisions taken by Gotabaya Rajapaksa resulting in the expulsion of the then President and the government.

Vipath Maga though they meant well, clearly became a disaster and if they don't have the courage now to accept their short sightedness, it speaks volumes about their character. Poor mother Lanka was almost renamed Express Peril of the Indian ocean.

May be not Viyathmaga as a group but individuals within that gave improper advice but is this an excuse, any person with general knowledge would have understood that organic farming should not have been an overnight decision.

Wasn't it the Viyathmaga brains that wanted the tax reductions?

It was a breakaway group of Viyathunge Handa formed ViYath Maga and handed over its leadership to GR for their benefit, got the posts they wanted , gave wrong advice on hasty introductions and ruined every thing. Leadership should have been with interlectuals rather than inexperienced GR !

You forgot to mention the Brown sugar scam and now you try clear away from Gota. You all promoted the Appuwa to be the king, and when he was in difficulties grasping for oxygen, you abandoned him. Great friendship. ONE THING, GOTA IS GONE, NEVER TO COME BACK.
