Vehicles damaged in buffalo collision on Southern Expressway
A car, a bus and a lorry were damaged after colliding with three buffaloes this morning on the Southern Expressway between Agunukolapelessa and Barawakumbuka, the Agunukolapelessa Police said.
They said the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m near the 177th milepost on the expressway. The vehicles were travelling towards Mattala from Agunukolapelessa when a herd of buffaloes crossed the expressway.
The car at the front hit three buffaloes, leading to an accident. Subsequently, a bus and a lorry following behind were also involved in the collision, the police said.
Two buffaloes died on the spot, while one sustained injuries. The car was severely damaged in the accident. A bus, which was carrying a group of people on a picnic, was also involved, but no passengers were injured.
The Angunakolapelessa Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
