Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila today requested the public to use fuel economically in view to save foreign currency to bring in the much-needed medicines and vaccines.

In a Twitter message, he said the reality is that we are in a foreign currency crisis.

The fuel was 18% of our import bill in the past six months of this year and it may be around 25% in the next six months, he tweeted. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Practice what you preach. Also, ask your colleagues in the parliament to use fuel sparingly and not have a convoy for them and each member of their family. This will drastically reduce consumption.
