This is a good move. Singapore already integrated with UPI, it opens up gateway for our business to tap into south indian market.

Excellent even for the tourism industry - India being a significant contributor in terms of visitors, can now make use of this facility for transactions.

    Aragallya Monday, 12 February 2024 02:51 PM

Ahamed Rikaz Mohamed Lahir Wednesday, 14 February 2024 05:28 AM

it's because of pettah traders atleast you are surviving for little lesser, or else the poor community would be in ditch

Kabir Hashim Monday, 12 February 2024 04:35 PM

Adopt the Indian rupee straightaway and be done with it.

    Aga Monday, 12 February 2024 05:05 PM

rather, give the guys at the expressway counters a swipe machine

    Hesh Monday, 12 February 2024 05:35 PM

Our merchants needs to be prepared to change first. They don't even allow us to pay through QR while in countries like Indian and China even street vendors have embraced QR payments.

    Shunmugam Monday, 12 February 2024 06:06 PM

Shocking ! An unelected old man selling Sri Lanka to the dirty Indians to gain their support to win the presidential election.

Tax Guru Monday, 12 February 2024 09:42 PM

Do you really know what QR based digital payment really is?. Reluctance of our Politicians and policy makers to make payments beyond a certain amount to be either digital or as bank transfers is the main reason for large scale circulation of black money and informal business practices. The result is tax evasion and growing inequality between the rich and the poor. We need to evolve with times.

    Amith Monday, 12 February 2024 11:35 PM

Excellent move... this will save lots of money spent on printing currency notes...

    Kps Tuesday, 13 February 2024 07:13 AM

Great move. Without any malice or criticism, I am wondering where does people find money to do these transactions ? According to Indian PM this system has done more than IRs 4 thrillion transactions with 1.4 million subscribers. Math won’t work well.

Fahim Mufakkir ( Fahim reasons) Tuesday, 13 February 2024 07:29 AM

It's heartening to witness the majority of readers sharing positive comments. It's truly reassuring to know that there are many citizens who grasp how to assess what is beneficial for the country.

Fahim Mufakkir [Fahimreasons] Tuesday, 13 February 2024 07:47 AM

I will consistently value any decision made by a political party or individual politician that benefits the country and its people, particularly the common man. I firmly believe that the President of Sri Lanka deserves acknowledgment for this decision and for all the robust decisions he has taken since the onset of the economic crisis. My conviction remains unwavering; I refuse to allow prejudice to obstruct the recognition owed to any person, whether they are a politician, religious dignitary, or even a stranger.

    Ron Tuesday, 13 February 2024 07:51 AM

You will never beat sri Lankan thives but good move a step forward

ALL depends on the vendors Tuesday, 13 February 2024 09:07 AM

In this land only large scale establishment accept card payments. Haven't seen anyplace accepting lanka QR pay let alone Indian payment methods. The country is running on day to day small roadside businesses. We will be lucky to have our own banking system

Fahim Mufakkir [fahimreasons] Tuesday, 13 February 2024 10:41 AM

Nonetheless, my unwavering commitment to completely reject current political ideologies and the existing constitution remains resolute. In my view, they have served as instruments for politically motivated racism, religious intolerance, environmental degradation, bankruptcy, and indeed, bloodshed since 1915, to be precise, rather than since independence. I will continue to uphold this determination, even if it means advocating alone for the establishment of a semi-direct democracy, empowering citizens to engage in crucial decision-making at all levels nationwide, from provinces to the most remote villages. I believe this initiative should begin with the Tamils in the North and East and then extend to the Sinhala and Muslim communities where they constitute the majority, thus enabling self-administration. My allegiance is not tied to any political faction or individual but rather to the democratic decision-making process, which is the only solution to the nation's recovery.

Where is Sri Lankas own payment system? Central bank and finance ministry is as usual sleeping on the job.
