Colombo, April 28 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today presented facts before Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara over the incident of the disappearance of approximately USD 2.5 million from the Treasury.
The CID informed that the complaint over this incident was received on March 24 and that based on the said complaint, investigations were commenced by the Computer Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.
The CID requested the Magistrate to issue an order to obtain details of the bank accounts of five officials who had not acted properly in relation to this fraudulent incident.
Further, the Magistrate imposed travel bans on the five suspect officials and ordered the Court Registrar to inform the Controller of Immigration and Emigration in this regard.
The Criminal Investigation Department informed court that steps would be taken to appoint a committee comprising computer experts from the Government Analyst’s Department, the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) and officials of the Computer Division of the University of Colombo for the purpose of conducting investigations into this incident.
