Colombo, Nov.22 (Daily Mirror) - The number of deaths from the landslide at Lower Kadugannawa in the Ganethenna area has increased to two, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said today.
One of the victims was a person who had been trapped under the debris following the incident.
Hospital sources said four others injured in the landslide are receiving treatment at the Mawanella Hospital.
The disaster occurred around 9.00 a.m. today (22) when a mass of soil and rocks crashed onto a shop in the area.
Authorities have temporarily closed the Ganethenna junction–Kadugannawa road as a result.
Police said vehicles traveling from Colombo to Kandy are being diverted through Rambukkana–Galagedara, while motorists from Kandy to Colombo have also been advised to use alternative routes.
