Two suspects arrested in Chilaw over viral child abuse video

Colombo, March 22 (Daily Mirror) - The Chilaw Police have arrested two individuals following the circulation of a disturbing video on social media depicting an attempted sexual assault on a male child. The incident reportedly took place at a hair salon located at the Kakkapalliya junction in Chilaw.

The investigation was launched by the Children and Women's Bureau of the Chilaw Headquarters Police Station after a complaint was lodged via the "109" emergency hotline. Preliminary inquiries into the footage revealed that the incident occurred in August 2025, involving a young boy who had visited the salon for a haircut.

Accordingly, a team of officers from the Chilaw Police Station arrested the two suspects in the Kakkapalliya and Bandarawatte areas. The suspects, aged 54 and 58, are residents of the Kakkapalliya.

The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Chilaw Magistrate's Court today.
