Two nabbed with Kerala cannabis worth over Rs. 50Mn in Jaffna, Kilinochchi

Two men have been arrested by the STF with 349 kg of Kerala cannabis (ganja) which has a street value of more than Rs.50 million during raids in Jaffna and Kilinochchi yesterday.

The STF said 141 kg of such cannabis smuggled from South India was recovered at a house at Allaippitti in Jaffna while another contraband of 208kgs of cannabis was recovered at Vivekanandanagar in Kilinochchi. Two suspects aged 43 and 46 were taken into custody along with the haul if cannabis.

The STF also seized a luxury car which was being used to transport and sell Kerala cannabis.  

The suspects were  handed over to the Kayts and Kilinochchi Police for further investigations.

It was revealed that these cannabis were sailed to the Sri Lankan waters by Indian multi-day fishing trawlers and then passed on to the local fishermen. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
