Two killed, four injured in bus-van collision in Valaichchenai

Two persons including a three months old infant were killed and four women were injured in a head-on collision involving a bus and a van at Valachchenai on the Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa road this afternoon.

The injured were admitted to the Batticaloa Hospital.

Police said a van heading to Kattankudy from Puttalam had collidded head-on with a private bus plying to Akkaraipattu from Kaduruwela.

The driver of the bus was arrested.(Nimal Jayaratne)

Accidents with head on collisions are possible only if the drivers are at fault. So the solution should be, even if it's a costly exercise, to get these drivers to go through a rigorous test keep their licence. Otherwise we will have people with a licence to kill.

This becomes a normal event indicating the status of driving in Sri Lanka due to massive corruption at licensing authorities and traffic enforcement police. Incompetent drivers are then taking over the roads and turning the roads into killing fields.

Buses are an absolute nightmare in sri lanka. Drivers think they own the roads!!!...police seem to spend most of their time stopping tuk tuks and bikes. I would NEVER travel by bus here. Something needs to be done!!!
