Two arrested for verbally abusing a Bhikkhuni

Colombo, Nov. 3 (Daily Mirror) - Wattala Police have arrested two men for allegedly acting in a disorderly manner and verbally harassing a Bhikkhuni near the Rathnawali Temple in Kerawalapitiya, Wattala.

Police said the suspects, aged 58 and 67, are both residents of Wattala.

The incident occurred on Sunday night (2) and was caught on camera. The footage, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the suspects verbally abusing the Bhikkhuni, drawing widespread public condemnation.

Police said further investigations are underway, and the two suspects will be produced before court.

We need to stop arresting people because the public wants them to. Instead we must only allow arrests for those breaking the law.

Very true. Why should one be arrested for standing up for his/her rights? The person breaking the law, in this case the ones causing the "noise pollution" should be arrested. Over to you Mr. President!

All religious places that cannot maintain peace in public in using loudspeakers and processions creating traffic blocks should be removed. Also, it is important to check if there is a hand behind who are very good at creating communal problems to take advantage.

Peace cannot be maintained when there is special treatment given to any particular religion. When this happens the followers of that religion can flout the laws (noise pollution) and go scot free. Whilst we do not condone the behaviour of these two who should have adopted restraint especially to a person of the clergy but saying that the clergy who are on a path of Nirvana should not antagonise any other religious sentiments by blaring on speakers chanting stanzas which might at times irritate people who do not belong to that religion. For anything to erupt we have to bear in mind there is a CAUSE AND EFFECT for anything!!!!!
