Colombo, June 15 (Daily Mirror) - Two suspects were arrested by the Bogawanthalawa Police today (15) for allegedly killing a sambar deer that was roaming in the Chapleton Estate in the Bogawanthalawa area and selling its meat.
Police said the arrests were made in Bogawanthalawa town following a tip-off that the two individuals had been involved in killing a sambar deer in the N.C. section of the Chapleton Estate and distributing its meat for sale. The suspects are residents of the same estate.
At the time of their arrest, they were found in possession of around 10 kilograms of meat, believed to be from the animal, which was reportedly intended for sale in Bogawanthalawa town. Preliminary investigations have also revealed that another portion of the meat had already been sold to estate workers.
Police further said that the suspects will be produced before the Hatton District and Magistrate’s Courts. Further investigations are being conducted under the directives of Bogawanthalawa Police OIC, Inspector Nuwan Madhusankha.
